I awoke to the news that this website had been accessed by a third-party and a potential virus uploaded. Fortunately, my host (1and1 Internet) was on the ball and prevented anything from happening. They also provided me with full instructions on how to remove the uploaded files, which has now been done.

I am pretty good about keeping my plugins and website up to date, but clearly, the little ‘darlings’ with nothing better to do with their lives than mess up people’s websites found a way through anyway. No damage was done, and the website remains secure. As a precaution, I changed my password as well.

This is a reminder, however, to make sure that you keep your own website(s), plugins and themes updated. Also, an up to date anti-virus on your PC.
